School Safety Training for Students:

Students’ safety is of the utmost importance. In Eugene School District 4J we have updated school safety protocols with best practices to keep everyone as safe as possible in an emergency. These updated safety strategies, known as ALiCE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate), are recommended by law enforcement. ALiCE strategies expand on our traditional safety practices and empower staff and students with more options during a life-threatening emergency, the kind we all hope never happens.

We will begin to share these strategies with students this spring, during the months of May and June. The student safety training will be age-appropriate and sensitive to students’ special needs.

At elementary schools, students will have age-appropriate class discussions, practice evacuating, and talk about barricading. At middle and high schools, class discussions will include more specifics about potential dangers and options, and students will practice evacuating, sheltering or barricading in response to a threat. Student training will not include the active-shooter simulations that staff have participated in.

Here at Spring Creek Elementary, class discussions will occur on May 8th and student drills will occur on May 9th.

The district is offering two parent information nights this month, before student safety training begins, to give families an opportunity to review ALiCE materials and ask questions of district staff and local law enforcement. Spanish interpretation will be provided. Childcare is not available.

Free Dental Cleaning, Exams and Sealants for Interested Students

Permission slips/interest letters were sent home with students for upcoming  FREE Dental Clinics sponsored by Lane Community College’s dental hygienists and dentists.  Students with signed permission slips will be contacted by Ann Anderson, Spring Creek’s School Nurse.  We will  go to clinics on April 18th or May 23rd via school bus.  This is an excellent opportunity for free dental care.   If you have questions or did not receive a permission slip and would like one, please contact Ann Anderson, School Nurse at 541-915-5815.

As always, please don’t hesitate to stop by, call or email if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Raquel
